Chalabal Estrella means Cave of the Tiger in Mayan, although the farm’s owners now call it the Coffee Cave as coffee is its main crop.

The farm was established in 1880 and was bought by the grandfather of the current owners in 1930. Miguel Soto got to work modernising the farm and improving the quality of coffee grown. Unfortunately all of his hard work was destroyed in 1976 when an earthquake struck just 40km from the farm. His daughter Nydia Soto de Amenabar completely rebuilt the farm, producing coffee again in just 2 years.

Now the farm is owned by her daughters and produces award-winning coffee.
